Our servers are based in the UK which ensures that your website will be included in the UK versions of Search Engines such as Google and Yahoo, as well as the international versions.
We have chosen to use UNIX based servers due to the many security issues associated with Microsoft Windows. We are not claiming that UNIX servers do not have any security issues, but there do tend to be more issues for Windows - and they are targeted by those unscrupulous people out there.
Again, the UNIX software we use is opensource. If bugs are found, there is a wide community of developers who will get the fix issued a lot more quickly than Microsoft tend to do so.
In addition, UNIX servers tend to give a lot more flexibility on services that can be allowed and disallowed on a per account basis, which of course means that there is less scope for disruption.
Finally, as we tend to use other opensource software such as osCommerce and phpBB, it is important that these bits of software run properly. We have used osCommerce on a Windows server in the past, but many features were disabled because Windows has a preferred configuration whereby changing it, causes problems.
There are no such issues with a UNIX server.
